Publishing is all about selling books, and self publishing is no different.
To traditionally publish you will need to sell your idea to a publisher, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for an unknown writer to sell direct to a publisher, so you'll need to get an agent.
But getting an agent is not easy either, trust me I know, after spending the last year searching for the right agent for my next book. Admittedly I've been very selective about which agents I've submitted to, believing that a well written personal approach is more likely to achieve success than carpet bombing every agent out there.
Self publishing may seem like a short cut, but the truth is that at some point you will need to sell your book. And if you've bypassed getting an agent, and selling to a publisher, then you'll have to sell your book direct to the reader.
So is it easer to sell direct to readers? I would say no, it's just different. It's definitely a lot more work, and selling the finished book to a reader is just the final piece of the journey...
So after self publishing 10 books, will I self publish again? Yes! and I'll be sharing the journey on my blog, hopefully if you've read this far, you'll pop in again to see how it's going.
