A Face Full of Snow

Images of the book and sketches from A Face Full of Snow

7th January 2025

A new year, ok so a week into the new year, but here we go… a new folder and the first file in the new folder feels a bit like a fresh new book, and that first crisp white page, and no lines, I prefer no lines and if forced to use a notebook with ruled lines I’m quite likely to ignore the lines.

So what is the plan for the new year, well I’m thinking a book of the month would be a good way to start. So with that in mind I’m going to start with A Face Full of Snow, because it feels topical for January, which is not only prime skiing season, but also we woke up to a white world on Sunday, prompting an earlier than usual walk, after all, here in England, snow doesn’t always last very long. I don’t know who was more excited, me of my dog to be walking on the fresh crunchy snow. And despite the heavy rain that followed, there is still some snow hanging around, stubbornly hanging onto car windscreens and edges of lawns.

A face Full of Snow is full of real life experience of a beginner on the ski slope, where skis start sliding before they even reach the snow, when they’re meant to be neatly held on the shoulder. Where that first fall leaves Eric like a stranded bug in the snow, skis and poles in all directions.

A story of determination, of falling down and getting up again, of unruly ski equipment, and of a trouble maker called Iver No-Idea...

The Blurb:

As Eric crashes his way down the ski slope, totally out of control, his only consolation is that Iver No-Idea isn't there to see.

Iver No-Idea and his dog HB are doodles. But they are no ordinary doodles - they're alive, and words and pictures come alive around them. Iver No-Idea has been learning to ski in a ski brochure. He's been practising for weeks and now he thinks he's an expert, and can't wait to tell Eric how it's done.

But when Iver No-Idea and HB are left behind, they find a way to gatecrash Eric's holiday. They arrive at just the wrong time, causing their own unique brand of trouble.

As a self publisher you’ve likely already come up against some sort of barrier in traditional publishing.
