Eye catching book display

Bunting is pretty and eye catching, even more so when it’s personalised. Here I’ve made letter bunting to promote my books; Rummage4words is where you’ll find my books on line.

Most of the letters are made from up cycled denim, from worn out jeans, with the vowels and number in colourful patterned cotton to add colour and variety. I used fat quarters, which is a good way of buying a selection of different fabrics for projects such as this, but up cycled fabric from old clothing would work just as well.

I cut a piece off the jeans and inserted some waddling to pad the letters.

For most of the letters I simply ran them under the sewing machine with a zig zag stitch in a contrast colour.

For some of the harder letters, such as ‘S’ I roughly chalked an outline to follow.

Stitching is on the right side, so there’s no need to turn them the other way out, simply cut out the shape after stitching, being careful not to cut too close as that would cut the stitches.

For the patterned cotton I simply cut a piece of fabric a similar size to the denim letters, which was roughly square when folded, and placed wadding inside, then stitched in the same way as for the denim letters.

Then I simply cut out the shape, being careful not to cut too close as that would cut the stitches.

Finally I stitched the letters onto a ribbon.

As a self publisher you’ve likely already come up against some sort of barrier in traditional publishing.
