The art of book promoting

It seems that as soon as I start thinking about promotions and marketing all the fun ideas run for cover, I can hear them muttering, but they’re not coming out to play. And so here I am wearing a marketing hat that doesn’t really fit, chasing words around the keyboard, when all the imagination has already gone into the book, so maybe I should hand the promotions over to the to…

If books had to promote themselves, what would they say?

• I am a book, such a simple and unassuming name for such as I!

• I contain whole worlds, lifetimes captured…

• I hold onto unruly characters, intent on escape and mischief.

• I hold daydreams in written form.

• I am magical; casting my spell over readers with printed squiggles.

• I inform and inspire.

• I am exercise, for the brain.

• I can be read silently.

• I can be given a voice and read out loud.

• I can convey many emotions.

• I can be closed (well… maybe) and wait quietly to be opened again.

As a self publisher you’ve likely already come up against some sort of barrier in traditional publishing.
